Biólogo, Licenciado en Biología (1998) - Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, La Paz, Bolivia.

Realizó dos Postdoctorados en el Laboratorio de Ecología Funcional del Departamento de Biología de la Universidad de La Serena (Proyecto MECESUP ULS0703 (2010-2011)), y proyecto FONDECYT Postdoctorado 3120121 (2012-2014).

Descripción de su actividad académica

Actualmente, la investigación que realizamos en el laboratorio está centrada en el estudio de la biodiversidad desde perspectivas ecológicas y evolutivas, con lineas de investigación centradas en las interacciones ecológicas entre especies, en la ecología funcional a escala comunitaria y en procesos macroevolutivos asociados a la evolución fenotípica. Combinamos técnicas experimentales, tanto en campo como en invernadero, con caracterización ambiental y de rasgos funcionales junto con modelos estadísticos para integrar información ecológica y filogenética con el fin de entender cómo la variación en la biodiversidad surge a partir de procesos ecológicos/evolutivos. Específicamente, conectamos:

1) procesos adaptativos, como la evolución de rasgos a través de selección natural, con patrones de variación geográfica resultantes de cambios en las condiciones biótica y abióticas.

2) patrones de ocurrencia de especies con teoría de ensamble comunitario, variación en rasgos funcionales y estructura filogenética.

3) evolución fenotípica, de rasgos funcionales importantes, con procesos de diversificación en diferentes ambientes.
