Biografía

Biólogo y Licenciado en Biología por la Universidad de Poitiers, Francia (1994). M.Sc. en Biología Evolutiva (1997) por la Universidad de Tours (Francia) y Doctorado en Genética de Poblaciones y Conservación (2011), por la Universidad de Poitiers, Francia. Realizó un Postdoctorado en el Departamento de Genética del Texas Biomedical Research Institute de San Antonio, Texas, EE.UU (2001-2004), incorporándose al staff científico en la misma institución desde el año 2004-2007. Posteriormente se trasladó a Chile como Profesor Asistente en el Departamento de Zoología de la Universidad de Concepción, Concepción, Chile (2007-2010). Del 2010 al 2016 trabajó como investigador en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Zonas Áridas, La Serena, Chile y a partir de Junio de 2016 trabaja como académico jornada completa en el Departamento de Biología de la Universidad de La Serena, Chile.

Descripción de su actividad académica                             

A nivel pregrado, participa a la asignatura de “Genética” para la carrera de Ingeniería Agronómica, y a nivel de postgrado, dicta la asignatura de “Genética de Poblaciones y Conservación” para el programa de Doctorado de Biología y Ecología Aplicada de La Universidad Católica del Norte/Universidad de La Serena. Además es Director deel Programa de Doctorado en Ciencias Biológicas mención Ecología de Zonas Áridas. Sus actividades de investigación se centran principalmente sobre el estudio de los factores (históricos, espaciales, ambientales y del paisaje) que pueden afectar a la diversidad biológica, a nivel poblacional y de comunidades, y particularmente sobre el impacto antropogénico sobre los ecosistemas terrestres. Utiliza principalmente la herramienta genética mediante el uso de marcadores moleculares para evaluar los efectos de la fragmentación de hábitat y la contaminación del medio ambiente en varios modelos biológicos (plantas, invertebrados acuáticos, vertebrados acuáticos y terrestres). Aborda estos temas con un enfoque multidisciplinario involucrando genética y genómica poblacional, genética del paisaje y ecotoxicología.
